Cuban authorities claimed to have thwarted a "terrorist infiltration" attempt on Wednesday. The operation resulted in an armed confrontation off the coast of Villa Clara province, involving a speedboat that had sailed from Florida.

The interception process

The vessel, registered under number FL7726SH , was spotted near Cayo Falcones. According to the Cuban Ministry of the Interior:

1. The clash: Shots were reportedly fired from the patrol boat as the coast guard approached, wounding the commander of the Cuban ship.
2. The human toll: Of the ten occupants, four were killed and six others were injured during the response by law enforcement.
3. The suspects' profile: They are believed to be Cubans residing in the United States, some of whom are already on the national list of persons wanted for criminal or violent activities.

A seized arsenal of war

The Cuban government detailed the equipment seized on board, confirming what it considers the offensive nature of the incursion:

1. Assault rifles and handguns.
2. Improvised explosive devices (Molotov cocktails).
3. Bulletproof vests, telescopic goggles and camouflage uniforms.

A coordinated operation?

In addition to the maritime interception, security forces announced the arrest on Cuban soil of a suspected accomplice. This individual, also sent from the United States, was allegedly responsible for logistics and welcoming the armed group upon its arrival. According to Havana, he has already confessed to his involvement.
