Manhattan : un assaillant abattu par la police après une attaque à la machette dans le métro
A Saturday morning marked by violence at New York's Grand Central station: a 44-year-old man, identified as Anthony Griffin, was shot dead by the NYPD after injuring three people on the subway platform.
The incident occurred around 9:40 a.m. in the heart of Manhattan. According to Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the individual was behaving erratically and was armed with a machete.
Three people were targeted in this random attack. Although seriously injured, their lives are not in danger .
This attack comes at a time when safety on New York City's public transportation system is at the forefront of public debate. Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed that an internal investigation is underway and that body camera footage from the officers will be released.
Police note: The suspect was already known to police. At this stage, any link to a terrorist act has been ruled out.
To counter this rise in insecurity, the NYPD recently deployed 175 additional officers to patrol specifically in the metropolis's underground network.
