Burkina Faso : La « Charte de la Révolution » officiellement adoptée par l'Assemblée

The institutional landscape of Burkina Faso has entered a new phase. On March 27, 2026 , the People's Legislative Assembly (ALP) unanimously voted to revise the fundamental text governing the transition, now renamed the "Charter of the Revolution" .

This reform, presented by the Minister of Justice Edasso Rodrigue Bayala, adapts the legal framework to the political and territorial realities arising from the decisions of 2024 and 2025.

What changes in concrete terms?

The adoption of this text by the 70 members of parliament present marks profound changes:

  1. Change of identity: The former Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT) officially becomes the People's Legislative Assembly (ALP) .
  2. Officialization of the RPP: The Charter incorporates the Popular Progressive Revolution (RPP) , proclaimed on April 1, 2025, establishing the struggle against imperialism and the defense of the homeland as constitutional pillars.
  3. New territorial anchoring: The text takes into account the administrative division of August 2025. The new regions now have representatives sitting in the Assembly.
  4. Consequences of the dissolution of parties: Following the law of February 6, 2026 prohibiting political parties, the Charter adjusts the rules of composition of the ALP to reflect this new reality without partisan pluralism.

Clarifications on the future of the Transition

In response to the questions raised, particularly on social media, the Minister of Justice wished to provide two major clarifications:

  1. Eligibility: The provisions concerning the eligibility of current authorities remain unchanged from the May 2024 version.
  2. Sustainability: The revision locks in the mechanisms for future amendments to the text. The minister emphasized that while the Charter defines the end of the Transition , it in no way marks the end of the Revolution , which unfolds over a longer period.
"This is not a total overhaul, but a necessary adaptation to anchor the values of the Revolution in Burkinabe positive law." — Edasso Rodrigue Bayala , Minister of Justice.
