The Council of Ministers of Burkina Faso met this Thursday, June 18, 2026, under the chairmanship of Captain Ibrahim Traoré. Two major decisions emerged from this weekly session: the severe sanctioning of two National Police officers and the adoption of decrees aimed at simplifying administrative procedures in the building and infrastructure sector.

Fight against corruption: two police officers dismissed for embezzling 45 million FCFA

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Security, the government has dismissed two police officers. According to Minister Mahamadou Sana, they are accused of embezzling 45,216,000 FCFA . This sum was originally intended to fund the operations of the National Police's Mobile Intervention Unit based in Koin, in the Boucle du Mouhoun region (Bankui).

The sanctioned officers are:

  1. Police Lieutenant TIAO B. Nicolas (Registration No. 90 605 X), Head of the administrative and financial department of the Regional Directorate of the National Police of the region.
  2. Police Sergeant-Chief ILBOUDO Pawentoré Marcelin (Registration No. 309 147 H), Head of Logistics within the same service.

This measure of permanent exclusion was taken in application of the law on the status of the cadre of the National Police and the decree relating to the general discipline of the institution.

Urban planning and housing: simplification of building permits and approvals

On the side of the Ministry of Homeland Construction, the Council adopted two strategic decrees to modernize the sector:

  1. Facilitating construction projects: A first decree establishes a framework for categorization and simplifies the procedures for issuing building permits. It follows on from the new Town Planning and Construction Code adopted on March 3, 2026.
  2. Accessibility of approvals: The second text reforms the conditions for granting, renewing and suspending approvals in the areas of urban planning, housing and transport infrastructure.

According to Minister Mikaïlou Sidibé, the objective is to harmonize the rules and lighten administrative procedures, thus allowing young Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to access the construction market more easily.
