Burkina Faso/ Violent fire at Paspanga Market in Ouagadougou: 160 stalls destroyed

Burkina/ Violent Incendie au Marché de Paspanga à Ouagadougou : 160 Étals Dévastés

A major fire ravaged part of the Paspanga market, located in district no. 02 of Ouagadougou, in the early hours of Sunday morning, November 30, 2025.

According to the Government Information Service, the fire destroyed 160 stalls , mainly those dedicated to the sale of condiments.

Rapid Response from the Authorities

The alert was raised around 8 a.m., as indicated by Rosalie Kaboré, Director General of the Urban Economic Development Agency (ADEU). Firefighters responded quickly.

"Upon our arrival, the firefighters were already on the scene and had managed to control the flames," said the CEO of ADEU, confirming the extent of the material damage to the 160 points of sale.

High-ranking officials were immediately alerted and went to the scene to assess the situation and support the victims, including:

  1. The Minister of State, Minister of Territorial Administration and Mobility, Émile Zerbo .
  2. The governor of the Kadiogo region, Abdoulaye Bassinga .
  3. The commander of the National Fire Brigade, Colonel Daba Naon .

Ongoing investigation and call for caution

The affected area has been secured. A team from the Scientific Police has been deployed to conduct the investigation and determine the origin of the fire, which remains unknown at this time .

ADEU has announced its intention to strengthen awareness campaigns among traders in order to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The Distress of the Victims

Among the female traders who lost everything, Solange Kaboré testified to her shock.

“I was about to set out my condiments and peanut butter when a child alerted me. I was only able to save my bicycle; everything else burned,” she said, before expressing her relief that no lives were lost: “We thank God. I urge everyone to be more vigilant to prevent this from happening again.”

Local authorities are currently carrying out the usual assessments and are committed to providing support to businesses affected by this disaster.
