Cameroun / Présidentielle 2025 : le gouvernement lance un appel à l’endroit des acteurs politiques et de la société civile

On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, the government of Cameroon warned against premature proclamations of the results of the presidential election of Sunday, October 12, 2025.

Indeed, through an official press release, the Minister of Communication and government spokesperson , René Emmanuel Sadi, denounced the proclamation by certain political leaders of the results of the election on social networks when they have not yet been proclaimed by the competent institutions.

According to the minister, these actions go against the texts in force.

He recalled that, in accordance with the Electoral Code, only the Constitutional Council is empowered to proclaim the results of the presidential election, and this within a maximum period of 15 days.

‎Faced with certain actions observed in recent days following the October 12 election, the Cameroonian executive has called on political actors, civil society and the media to respect the Electoral Code.

Below is the full statement from the government spokesperson.

"The day after the presidential election of October 12, 2025, which has just ended peacefully, certain political leaders, some citizens, as well as conventional media and social networks, rushed to proclaim what they consider to be the results of this election.

Moreover, one of the candidates in the running declared himself the winner via social media, which inappropriately contravenes the relevant laws in force.

Also, the Government of the Republic wishes to recall that the conduct of electoral and referendum processes is governed in Cameroon by Law No. 2012/001 of April 19, 2012 on the Electoral Code, amended and supplemented by Law

No. 2012/017 of December 21, 2012 and Law No. 2019/005 of April 25, 2019.

Furthermore, Article 137 of the Electoral Code provides that "the Constitutional Council shall decide and proclaim the results of the presidential election within a maximum period of fifteen (15) days, from the date of closing of the poll."

Article 62 of the same law provides that, in the meantime, the local commission of each polling station shall send, within forty-eight (48) hours, a report of all voting operations to the departmental supervision commission, or where appropriate, to the territorially competent municipal supervision commission.

Subsequently, the Departmental Supervisory Commission in turn sends its work to the National Commission for the General Vote Counting within seventy-two (72) hours.

As for the National Commission for the General Counting of Votes, it has, in accordance with the terms of Article 69, five (05) days to carry out the general counting of votes, in view of the minutes and supporting documents transmitted by the Departmental Supervisory Commissions.

At the end of its work, the National General Census Commission transmits its report to the Constitutional Council, which, within a maximum period of five (05) days, proceeds to proclaim the results of the vote.

It is important to clarify that at each of these stages, and in accordance with the law, the candidates for the election in question are duly represented.

This means that any action contrary to respect for this process constitutes a serious breach of the regulations in force in Cameroon, with all the legal consequences that follow.

The Government of the Republic therefore calls upon the civic and patriotic sense of political actors and civil society, as well as that of media professionals, including those operating through social networks, with a view to strict compliance with the Electoral Code of our country.

Finally, the Government of the Republic urges Cameroonians to continue to demonstrate maturity, responsibility and serenity, pending the publication of the results of the presidential election of October 12, 2025, by the Constitutional Council, which has exclusive jurisdiction.
