Congo-Brazzaville : Fin de campagne sous le signe du « Coup K.O. »
This Friday, March 13, marks the final stage of the presidential campaign in Congo-Brazzaville. Two days before the election scheduled for Sunday, March 15, the incumbent president, Denis Sassou-Nguesso , concluded his national tour with a show of force in the capital.
On Boulevard Alfred Raoul, the atmosphere was that of a major event. Between massive security deployments and meticulously planned logistics, the presidential camp spared no expense:
The major challenge: For the incumbent president (82 years old, 41 of which have been spent in power), the goal is a clear victory in the first round. His biggest fear? Voter abstention , which he is combating by presenting himself as the sole "guarantor of peace" in the face of an opposition that, according to him, represents uncertainty.
The contrast is striking with the opposition candidates, who struggle to exist in the face of this electoral war machine.
According to the current Constitution, this election could pave the way for Denis Sassou-Nguesso's final five-year term.
