Drame routier au Togo : un choc frontal fait 10 morts et 9 blessés près de Glei
National Route 1 (RN1) was the scene of a human tragedy on Saturday, January 31, 2026. An exceptionally violent accident involving a heavy goods vehicle and a passenger transport vehicle claimed the lives of ten people.
According to information released by the National Police via its social media channels, the collision occurred approximately 5 km north of the town of Glei , near the village of Sorad. The crash involved:

Police were immediately alerted and arrived at the scene to secure the area and assist the victims. The accident initially brought traffic to a standstill on this strategic route, forcing the implementation of alternating traffic flow.
However, the police confirmed at the end of the day that the situation had returned to normal:
"Traffic has resumed on the RN1 following the previously reported accident at the northern exit of the town of Glei."
This accident serves as a stark reminder that road safety remains a major concern in Togo. Official statistics are alarming: between 2022 and 2024, the country recorded 20,942 accidents , resulting in 1,826 deaths.
