Under the impetus of Angola, a key mediator and current chair of the African Union, a new stage could be reached in the conflict tearing apart eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Luanda has officially proposed a cessation of hostilities between Kinshasa and the M23 rebellion for Wednesday, February 18, at noon .
This announcement, published on the night of February 12, follows a high-level summit held last Monday in Luanda. The meeting brought together the leaders of the DRC, Angola, and Togo, as well as the AU facilitator, Olusegun Obasanjo. While the principle of a ceasefire was agreed upon, a precise deadline still needed to be set.
