After months of diplomatic tensions, relations between Algiers and Niamey are regaining their former strength. The official visit of General Abdourahamane Tiani to Algiers on Monday, February 16, marks the end of an "abnormal period of chill," in the words of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune . This summit concluded with a major announcement: the concrete relaunch of the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project.

A colossal project relaunched in the spring

The thaw in relations between the two neighbors will materialize with the launch of construction on the Niger section of the pipeline. Technical operations will begin just after Ramadan (around March 19).

This ambitious project, spanning over 4,000 km, aims to:

1. Transporting Nigerian gas to Algeria via Niger.
2. Supplying the Sahel countries with energy.
3. Export the surplus to the European Union via the Transmed gas pipeline (to Italy) or by sea (LNG).

Multidimensional Algerian support

Beyond energy, Algeria is positioning itself as a key partner for Niger, which is seeking economic stability. President Tebboune has promised "unlimited" support, including:

1. Health and Education: Creation of dialysis centers and educational projects.
2. Security: Increased counter-terrorism cooperation, sharing Algerian military expertise and capabilities.
3. Diplomacy: A shared desire to stabilize the Sahel-Saharan region.

"We are on the same side," Abdelmadjid Tebboune insisted, reaffirming Algiers' solidarity with its Sahelian neighbor.
