Ghana : John Dumelo, de star du cinéma à pilier du gouvernement
Ghanaian actor John Dumelo confirms his political transformation. A popular figure in African cinema for over a decade, he has now established himself as a key player on the institutional scene in Ghana, holding the positions of Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister to the Minister of Agriculture and Food.
Elected as a Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency in the December 2024 general elections, he entered the Parliament of Ghana representing the National Democratic Congress . A symbolic victory for someone who had narrowly missed out in the previous election, but who never gave up on his political ambitions.
Following this, President John Dramani Mahama appointed him Deputy Minister to the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku . This appointment reflects a trend towards renewing the profiles within the executive branch and leverages Dumelo's entrepreneurial experience in the agricultural sector.
For several years, the former actor has invested in agriculture and advocated for better promotion of local products. In his new role, he will be expected to contribute to strengthening food security, supporting producers, and encouraging local processing, in a context where food sovereignty remains a strategic issue for Ghana.
From the big screen to the halls of Parliament, John Dumelo now embodies a new generation of African figures who are converting their fame into political influence. His challenge begins now: to build on this success and ensure the long-term impact of his actions.
