Guinée : Mamadi Doumbouya déclaré vainqueur d'une présidentielle sans suspense

Four years after his coup, General Mamadi Doumbouya was declared the winner of the presidential election in the first round with 86.72% of the vote. In an election marked by the absence of the traditional opposition, the capital, Conakry, greeted these provisional results with relative indifference.

A plebiscite in a locked political landscape

The results published on December 30 by the General Directorate of Elections (DGE) confirm what many observers predicted: a landslide victory for the country's strongman. Facing opponents deemed "weak," General Doumbouya did not have to confront the heavyweights of Guinean politics, such as former president Alpha Condé or Cellou Dalein Diallo, both of whom are in exile.

Despite a high official turnout of 80.95% , the announcement of the results sparked no public jubilation. In Conakry, the streets remained deserted, a stark contrast to the usual excitement of election nights. While four candidates quickly conceded defeat, Abdoulaye Yéro Baldé (6.59%) and Faya Millimouno (2.04%) have yet to acknowledge the official figures.

Between international recognition and internal criticism

The electoral process was denounced as a "farce" by Cellou Dalein Diallo (UFDG), who had called for a boycott. However, observer missions from the African Union (AU) and ECOWAS praised the quality of the technical organization of the election. This international validation should pave the way for Guinea's full reintegration into these bodies.

However, this diplomatic satisfaction is tempered by darker reports on the political climate:

  1. Major absences: The exclusion of key political leaders has reduced the democratic stakes.
  2. Repression: Faya Millimono's Liberal Bloc (BL) denounces the imprisonment of thirteen of its officials during the campaign and the abduction of a deputy campaign director.
  3. Suspicions of fraud: The BL claims to have video and technical evidence of massive irregularities on the ground.

The shadow of forced disappearances

Beyond the ballot box, the African Union used its end-of-mission statement to express grave concern regarding human rights. It called on the authorities to shed light on the recurring cases of disappearances and abductions that marked the transition period. These practices, targeting critical voices, continue to erode citizens' trust in institutions as General Doumbouya prepares to begin his civilian term.

The final results must now be validated by the Supreme Court.
