Guinée : Reprise des manifestations à Siguiri, plusieurs écoles fermées ce lundi

The situation remains tense in Siguiri, this Monday, December 1, 2025. After a night of protests, demonstrations resumed this morning in several districts of the urban commune, plunging the city into a climate of anxiety.

According to several testimonies gathered on site, most schools remained closed due to fear and traffic disruptions.

Students were unable to reach their classrooms, while groups of young people were seen in certain strategic areas, chanting slogans hostile to local authorities.

The departure of the prefect and the release of a young leader demanded.

The protesters are demanding, in particular, the departure of the prefect, Colonel Ibrahima Douramoudou Keïta, as well as the immediate release of Aly Thiam, a young local leader arrested during previous demonstrations.

The slogans heard in the streets of Siguiri this Monday were unequivocal: "The prefect must leave! Free Aly Thiam!"

Tires were burned in some places and the tension remains palpable, even though no major clashes were reported by midday.

A lingering anger after a tragedy

These new mobilizations come two days after the tragic death of a young man, crushed under the tipper of a truck during the dispersal of a previous nighttime demonstration.

According to several witnesses, the victim was knocked unbalanced by tear gas before being fatally struck.

This tragedy has provoked strong emotions in the city and reinforced the feeling of injustice among an already angry youth.

Authorities are calling for calm

Contacted by SeneWeb Guinea, the president of the special delegation of Siguiri, Souleymane Koita, assured that measures are being taken to calm the situation. "We call on the youth to remain calm and exercise restraint. The authorities are listening to find a peaceful solution to these tensions," he stated.

A local crisis that resembles social discontent

These repeated demonstrations in Siguiri reflect a deeper social unease, fueled by the feeling of exclusion among young people in the face of local decisions and the management of mineral resources.

Between social demands, economic frustrations and distrust of the administration, the gold-mining town of Siguiri is mired in a climate of uncertainty.
