Guinée/Tragédie à Labé : deux frères perdent la vie sous les roues d'un camion

The city of Labé, in central Guinea, is in mourning. On Friday, April 10, a horrific accident claimed the lives of Abdoulaye Yéro Diallo (15 years old) and Aladji Ousmane Diallo (4 years old) , two brothers inseparable in life and in death. The tragedy occurred around 6:00 p.m. in the Maleya area (Daka 2 district).

The circumstances of the tragedy

The accident involved a motorcycle carrying three passengers and a truck traveling in the opposite direction. According to Aliou Baillo Diallo, president of the neighborhood council, the tragedy unfolded in a matter of seconds.

  1. The maneuver: While attempting to avoid the heavy goods vehicle on a narrow and dangerous passage, the motorcyclist reportedly lost control.
  2. The impact: The motorcycle slipped, ending up under the wheels of the truck which was unable to stop in time.
  3. The outcome: The two brothers died instantly. A young neighbor, also on the motorcycle, was seriously injured and urgently evacuated to Senegal.

A driver on the run and a community in shock

Although the truck driver was a known resident of the neighborhood, he fled the scene immediately after the accident. Local police have issued a wanted notice to find him and determine responsibility.

"Losing two children from the same family in such conditions is beyond comprehension," confided a resident, as the bodies were transported to the morgue of the regional hospital in Labé.

The scourge of road insecurity

This latest accident adds to an already grim toll for April in Guinea. In just a few days, the country has recorded:

  1. April 10: 5 deaths on the Conakry-Coyah road.
  2. Early April: 2 traders killed between Faranah and Kissidougou.

For the people of Labé, this tragedy is a tragic symptom of a degraded road network and an increasingly perilous coexistence between heavy goods vehicles and motorcycles, the main means of transport for Guineans.

The investigation is ongoing to locate the fugitive driver and to meet the demand for justice from the Daka 2 community.
