The incident occurred at 6:52 p.m. (1:22 p.m. GMT). Speaking to the press, Police Commissioner Satish Golcha detailed the sequence of events: a vehicle "moving slowly" stopped at a traffic light and then exploded. The blast caused damage to people and vehicles in the vicinity.
The disaster area, located near a metro station in the old town, was the scene of a major fire which, according to local media reports, engulfed between eight and twenty cars.
