Justice au Tchad : Lourde peine pour les chefs de file de l’ex-GCAP
The verdict was handed down this Friday, May 8, 2026, at the N'Djamena courthouse. The eight leaders of the Political Actors Consultation Group (GCAP) were sentenced to eight years in prison and fined 500,000 FCFA each.
The hearings, which began at Klessoum prison, concluded in the Chadian capital. The president of the High Court, Alhadj Djida, followed the prosecution's recommendations, finding the defendants guilty on several serious charges.
The trial was held behind closed doors , a procedure that underlines the political and security sensitivity surrounding this case.
As a reminder, these opposition figures were arrested on April 25, 2026 in N'Djamena. Their arrest occurred while they were organizing preparations for a protest march initially planned for May 2.
This conviction marks a turning point for the former GCAP, whose main leaders now find themselves sidelined from the political scene for a long period.
