Kenya : Douze Morts dans l'Écrasement d'un Avion Transportant des Touristes Étrangers
A small tourist plane crashed Tuesday morning in the coastal region of Kwale, Kenya, killing at least 12 people. The aircraft, which was headed to the famous Masai Mara National Reserve, was carrying passengers "all foreign tourists," according to authorities.
The accident occurred in a wooded and rugged area, located approximately 40 kilometers from the Diani airstrip. Kwale County Commissioner Stephen Orinde confirmed to the Associated Press the death toll and the nature of the victims, adding that their nationalities would be released later.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) reported that the aircraft was a Cessna Caravan and that 12 people were on board, without immediately specifying the breakdown between passengers and crew. The KCAA has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
The plane reportedly crashed and caught fire just minutes after takeoff. Witnesses told the AP they heard a "loud bang" before discovering the charred wreckage and unidentifiable human remains at the scene.
Mombasa Air Safari stated that it is cooperating with the civil aviation authority, which is responsible for disseminating information related to the incident. The Masai Mara, the aircraft's final destination, is one of Kenya's tourism gems, particularly renowned for the annual wildebeest migration.
