Kenya : un ressortissant canadien inculpé de terrorisme après une attaque à la machette

A 32-year-old Canadian man is currently in jail in Kenya. Local police accuse him of carrying out a violent attack in a mosque in the capital, Nairobi, injuring several people.

The facts: an attack in a place of worship

The tragedy took place on February 28th at the Masjid Westlands mosque. According to the report from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect, identified as Mohamed Abdul Mohamed , allegedly entered the building around 6 a.m. by posing as a worshipper.

Once inside, the individual would have:

Locked the main access point to prevent any leaks.
He pulled out a concealed machete to attack the assembly.
He injured five worshippers before finally being subdued by those present.

Law enforcement intervened quickly to arrest him. The victims were taken to a hospital.

A serious legal case

On April 2, the suspect was formally charged with nine counts , reflecting the seriousness and diversity of the alleged offenses:

Acts of terrorism ;
Assault causing bodily harm;
Possession of counterfeit money ;
Illegal stay on Kenyan territory.

Current situation: Mohamed Abdul Mohamed remains in pretrial detention at Kamiti high-security prison. He is due to appear in court again on April 13 .
