L'Algérie adopte une loi historique criminalisant la colonisation française
The Algerian Parliament unanimously passed a law on December 24th classifying French colonization as a "state crime." This legislation demands an official apology from Paris and holds France fully legally responsible for the harm caused during the colonial period.
The law lists crimes deemed imprescriptible, including nuclear tests in the Sahara, summary executions, torture, and the plundering of resources. Beyond its symbolic value, the text asserts an "inalienable" right to material and moral reparations, as well as the restitution of looted archives and property.
Although this legislation marks a major shift in historical memory, experts emphasize its lack of legally binding force on the international stage. In response, the French Foreign Ministry declined to comment on what it considers a foreign internal political debate.
