L'UEMOA Passe au Crible 145 Réformes et un Projet Majeur à Abidjan
From November 10 to 12, 2025 , Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire) will host the 11th Annual Review of Reforms, Policies, Programs and Community Projects of the WAEMU . This technical meeting is essential for assessing progress in economic integration within the Union.
Experts from the eight member countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) will examine 145 regulatory texts as well as a community project costing over 2 billion FCFA .
The main objective is threefold:
The results of the previous edition confirm Côte d'Ivoire 's progress in implementing the WAEMU directives. The implementation rate increased from 85.45% in 2023 to 87.78% in 2024 , representing a rise of 2.33 percentage points.
These advances are particularly visible in crucial areas such as economic governance , macroeconomic convergence , and regional competitiveness . As the region's largest economy , Abidjan is nevertheless encouraged to further accelerate its structural reforms to preserve its leading role within the Union.
Established in 2013 by the Conference of Heads of State, this review is a key tool for regional integration. It takes place in two stages:
The ultimate goal of the WAEMU remains to build an integrated, stable, and prosperous economic space , the benefits of which directly accrue to the citizens of the sub-region. This 11th edition also emphasizes the need to strengthen the synergy between states, institutions, and civil society for better collective ownership of the reforms.
