Madagascar/Alerte Cyclone Gezani : Antananarivo à l'arrêt ce 11 février
Faced with the threat of Cyclone Gezani , the Analamanga region has entered protection mode. The Joint Planning Body (JPB) has taken drastic measures to guarantee the safety of citizens, resulting in a widespread suspension of activities on Tuesday, February 11, 2026.
🎓 Education: Schools and Universities closed
The education sector is the first to be impacted by these preventative measures:
- Schools (Cisco): All schools in Analamanga are suspending classes until further notice.
- University of Antananarivo: All teaching and administrative activities are suspended for the day. Resumption will depend on improved weather conditions.
🏛️ Public services and transport operating at a reduced capacity
Urban life is severely disrupted:
- Urban Commune of Antananarivo (CUA): If the red alert persists, only essential services (firefighters, municipal police, sanitation) will remain mobilized.
- Urban train service: The Ministry of Transport has announced a complete shutdown of services for February 11th. A gradual resumption of service is planned for February 12th starting at 5:30 PM .
- Events: Many gatherings, including the OMDA New Year's reception, are being postponed.
Important note: The reopening of municipal services and administrative offices will be done on a case-by-case basis, depending on the danger of the cyclone phenomenon.
