Frustration has reached its peak in Toamasina. Yesterday afternoon, residents of the Mangarano district took to the streets, erecting barricades to protest against a power outage that has lasted for almost two months.

Two months in the dark

The situation dates back to Cyclone Gezani on February 10th. Since then, the power grid has been out of service in the area. The consequences for the population are severe:

1. Increased insecurity due to the permanent darkness.
2. Economic paralysis : many small businesses and artisans have had to cease their activities.
3. Job losses : several workers have lost their source of income due to lack of energy.

"Several power poles are still lying on the ground since the cyclone. This is a permanent public hazard that must be addressed immediately," warns a local source.

A conditional lull

The demonstration ended after mediation by local authorities. They pledged to address the Mangarano case as an "absolute emergency" .

For its part, Jirama provided an update on the progress of the work in the rest of the city:

1. Ongoing rehabilitation projects: Work is being carried out with the support of the town hall and local residents in Valpinson , Ankirihiry and Andranomadio .
2. Gradual recovery: While a return to normal was expected as early as last night for some areas, other neighborhoods are still waiting for technicians to intervene.

The challenge remains significant for the national company, which must replace many heavily damaged infrastructures to stabilize the port city's network.
