In response to the severe weather and flooding affecting the north of the country, the Provincial Directorate of National Education in Larache has taken emergency measures. The safety of students and staff is paramount in this exceptional decision.

School suspensions: What you need to know

The suspension of in-person teaching activities will extend from Monday, February 2nd to Saturday, February 7th, 2026. This measure concerns:

1. The urban area of Ksar El Kébir : 69 establishments (public and private), including 27 preschool units.
2. The school population : Approximately 35,000 students impacted, including 15,000 in primary school and 5,000 in preschool.
3. Higher education : The multidisciplinary Faculty of Larache and its annex in Ksar El Kébir are also closed for the same period.

The reasons for the urgency

The provincial director, Mohamed El Baâli, emphasizes that the situation has become critical following the flooding of the Loukkos wadi .

"The rising water level has caused leaks in five establishments and blocked access to many others, making travel impossible and dangerous."

This decision was validated by the provincial monitoring unit, in coordination with local authorities and the AREF of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima.

Educational continuity and recovery

Education does not stop, however. The Provincial Directorate has put in place a system to limit the impact on learning:

1. Switch to distance learning for the entire week of closure.
2. Scheduling of support and catch-up courses as soon as things return to normal to fill any gaps.
3. Resumption is scheduled for Monday, February 9, 2026 , subject to improved weather conditions.
