Niger : Black-out médiatique sur les réseaux français et internationaux
In a climate of complete diplomatic rupture, the Nigerien authorities took a further step this Friday , May 8, 2026. Through state television, the regime officially announced the suspension of about ten major media outlets, mainly French, citing national security imperatives.
The axe has fallen on media giants such as France 24, RFI, AFP, Mediapart, TV5 Monde, and Jeune Afrique . The measure is not limited to terrestrial broadcasting: it also affects satellite packages, websites, and mobile applications.
The reasons given:
"These media outlets repeatedly broadcast content that could jeopardize the stability of the country," the official statement said.
This decision is not accidental. It comes as the "Africa Forward" summit opens in Nairobi, a meeting between France and several African nations from which Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso are conspicuously excluded.
Since the coup of July 2023, Niamey has radically changed its geopolitical course:
This new wave of suspensions, which also includes media outlets like LSI Africa and France Afrique Media , confirms the regime's hardening stance against any foreign voice deemed dissenting.
