Ouganda : Bobi Wine annonce avoir fui le pays pour échapper à l'armée
After weeks of uncertainty that plunged his supporters into anguish, Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine has finally broken his silence. On Saturday, the former musician turned politician confirmed he had left Uganda, claiming he was the target of a veritable "manhunt" orchestrated by the military.
Bobi Wine disappeared from the public eye shortly after the presidential election on January 15th. As a reminder, incumbent President Yoweri Museveni was declared the winner with 71.6% of the vote , a result immediately contested by the opposition, which denounced widespread fraud.
The safety of the opposition figure appeared to be directly threatened by the ruling power:
Although he confirms his exile, Bobi Wine remains vague about his current destination, citing "crucial commitments" to justify his move.
"This announcement brings some relief to his supporters: while the location of his refuge remains secret, the certainty that he is beyond the reach of the Ugandan army allays fears for his life."
