Piraterie au Gabon : Neuf marins kidnappés lors d'un assaut nocturne
A new pirate attack shook Gabonese waters last weekend. On the night of Saturday 10 to Sunday 11 January 2026 , the trawler IB Fish 7 , flying the local flag, was the target of a violent raid southwest of Ekwata.
According to information released by the Ministry of Defense and the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Hubert Bekale Meyong, the commando consisted of three armed men. The human toll is heavy.
The ship was located by authorities and escorted to the port of Libreville . A judicial investigation was immediately opened by the capital's prosecutor's office to identify those responsible for the hijacking.
This incident is unfortunately not isolated. It sadly recalls the attack on the Amerger 7 which occurred almost a year ago, on January 31, 2025, where three Senegalese sailors were captured in similar circumstances.
The Gulf of Guinea remains today one of the most
dangerous in the world. Piracy is structural there and manifests itself through:
