San Pedro : La direction régionale des transports appelle à la vigilance routière en période électorale
With the presidential election on October 25 approaching, the San Pedro Regional Transportation Directorate has issued an urgent appeal to motorists, particularly public transport drivers, urging them to exercise responsibility on the roads to prevent accidents during this sensitive period.
She kept the awareness flame alive from October 3 to 10, on the occasion of the 33rd National Road Safety Week, under the theme: " All for an accident-free election period ."
Representing Akambi Abibulai, the regional director of transport, Aké Franck Innocent, senior technician in logistics transport, insisted on the need for drivers to adopt prudent behavior: respect the highway code, regular vehicle maintenance, abstinence from alcohol while driving, speed limit and sufficient rest.
According to him, the election period traditionally leads to an increase in travel, particularly among voters traveling to their hometowns to fulfill their civic duty. This massive flow of traffic automatically increases the risk of accidents on major roads.
This was an opportunity for Police Captain Deza Casimir to welcome the significant decline in road traffic accidents (AVP) in recent months. However, he reiterated that vigilance should remain essential, especially during this election period. He encouraged drivers to maintain the good practices already observed and emphasized the importance of intensifying awareness campaigns among transport professionals.
As a reminder, National Road Safety Week is part of the National Road Safety Strategy (SNSR), adopted by the Council of Ministers on January 18, 2023. This is an ambitious government policy that aims to reduce accidents by 25% by the end of 2025, and by 30% by 2030.
