Sénégal : la mort d’Abdoulaye Ba embrase les écoles, les élèves rejoignent la grève étudiante
The mobilization is intensifying in the Senegalese education sector. Secondary school students have joined the 72-hour strike launched by university students to demand justice after the death of Abdoulaye Ba, a student at Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) in Dakar.
In several locations across the country, including Dakar, Ziguinchor, Bignona, Oussouye, and Mbacké, classes were disrupted. Classrooms were emptied and schools brought to a standstill by students who came to express their solidarity with the university students and denounce the violence that led to the tragedy.
The death of Abdoulaye Ba, which occurred following clashes on campus, has sparked outrage within the university community and beyond. Autopsy results indicate severe trauma, further fueling student anger and demands for a full investigation into the circumstances of his death.
At the heart of the demands are justice for the victim, improved living and studying conditions at universities, and the regular payment of scholarships. For many young people, this mobilization now extends beyond the university setting and reflects a deeper unease within the education system.
Faced with the rising tensions, the authorities condemned the violence and promised to open investigations. But on the ground, the protesters' resolve remains strong, raising fears that the movement will continue if concrete solutions are not found quickly.
This convergence between pupils and students marks a turning point in the current crisis, giving the protest a national dimension and putting more pressure on the government.
