The social climate is deteriorating in Senegalese higher education. This Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the country's universities are beginning a three-day strike called by the student associations of Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD). This mobilization follows an escalation of tensions marked by three major points of contention:

Demand for justice: Students are demanding full transparency regarding the death of one of their classmates, which occurred last Monday on the Dakar campus.
Release of detainees: The group demands the immediate release of several leaders, including Demba Ka, Waly Faye, and Bathié Fall. They face serious charges, ranging from destruction of public property to endangering state security.
Financial crisis: The non-payment of scholarship arrears remains a source of insecurity and anger for the strikers.

The strike, scheduled to last until Thursday, marks a new stage in the confrontation between the student community and the authorities.
