Sénégal : Opération de secours d'envergure après le naufrage d'un patrouilleur

A race against time is underway in northern Senegal. The national navy has mobilized significant resources to find three soldiers missing after their boat crashed on Thursday morning around 9 a.m.

The facts

The patrol boat, which was on a liaison mission, capsized at the mouth of the Senegal River, near Saint-Louis. According to military authorities, the tragedy was caused by a sudden deterioration in weather conditions , resulting in large waves that overwhelmed the vessel.

Assessment and rescue plan

The Armed Forces Public Relations Office (DIRPA) has released the first details of the operation:

  1. Survivors: 10 sailors were rescued safe and sound.
  2. Wreck: The remains of the patrol boat have been located and recovered.
  3. Resources deployed: An operation combining air, sea and land units is currently underway to sweep the area.
The Senegal River, which marks the border with Mauritania, is renowned for the complexity of its currents where it joins the Atlantic Ocean.
