Tchad : Le mariage Nord-Sud, ciment d’une nation unie

Historically, Chad has always seen unions that celebrate diversity. Iconic couples, such as Armand and Mariam or Djedoudom and Hadjidja, proved that love could transcend ethnic and geographical divides. Far more than mere romances, these homes embodied a model of peaceful coexistence and a bridge between the country's rich cultural heritage.

A decline in the face of identity-based withdrawal?

However, the landscape seems to be changing. Today, crossing the invisible line between North and South to say "I do" appears more complex. Several factors are hindering this momentum:

  1. The weight of traditions: Family pressures often rooted in conservatism.
  2. Social perception: The fear of judgment or exclusion within one's own community.
  3. The rise of identity: A retreat into oneself that transforms the other into a stranger.

Although unions between profiles like "Mahamat and Nathalie" still exist, they now face more rigid socio-cultural obstacles.

When politics gets involved: the mirror effect of social media

The sensitivity of the subject is regularly illustrated in the digital sphere. Recently, a rumor inflamed the internet, attributing to Prime Minister Allah-Maye Halina a refusal to form an alliance with the daughter of Senator Abderamane Koulamallah for ethnic reasons.

"Yesterday, I read on social media that you had refused to give me your daughter," the Prime Minister reacted ironically during a session in the Senate.

While the anecdote may seem amusing, it reveals an underlying reality: in Chad, marriage is a political and social issue of paramount importance , capable of both crystallizing tensions and defusing conflicts.

The focus: the first laboratory of national unity

Marriage is not just a matter of feelings; it is an act of civic duty . By uniting two families from different regions, a network of solidarity is created that transcends provincial borders. It is there that tolerance and mutual understanding are forged.

For these unions to cease being courageous exceptions and become a natural norm, fundamental work is needed:

  1. Educate: Promote mixing from a young age.
  2. Raising awareness: Deconstructing prejudices inherited from the past.
  3. Celebrate: Value these models of intercultural family success.

Chad's future depends on its ability to transform its diversity into a strength. By choosing openness rather than isolation, each North-South partnership becomes another building block in the construction of a solid and lasting coexistence.
