Tchad : Le Salamat Renforce sa Santé de Proximité avec la Distribution de 108 Vélos

The province of Salamat, in eastern Chad, has taken a concrete step to improve access to and the effectiveness of healthcare in its rural areas. On Monday, December 8, 2025, a ceremony was held at the provincial health delegation to mark the distribution of 108 bicycles for community health workers.

An Essential Partnership for Health Coverage

Chaired by the Secretary General of the province, Maab Mara , the event highlighted the importance of this donation, which is the result of a crucial partnership with UNICEF .

  1. A total of 108 bicycles were distributed.
  2. They will serve 54 health centers spread across Salamat.

Maab Mara emphasized the role of this equipment in strengthening primary healthcare .

Objective: To bring healthcare closer to communities

The main objective of this allocation is to enhance the mobility of staff in rural areas that are often difficult to access. The initiative aims to:

  1. Improve health coverage and the effectiveness of interventions on the ground.
  2. Guarantee better access to healthcare for the most remote and isolated populations.

The Provincial Health Delegate, Dr. Abdoulaye Mahamat Hassan , praised the commitment of the staff, whom he described as "pillars of the community health system." These professionals form the vital link between health facilities and the inhabitants of isolated villages.

Key Missions Facilitated

Thanks to this newfound freedom of movement, community health workers will be better able to carry out their essential missions, which include:

  1. Raising awareness among families (particularly regarding vaccination and the prevention of communicable diseases).
  2. Promoting good health practices.
  3. Community monitoring and early detection of disease cases.

In closing the ceremony, the Secretary-General strongly urged the beneficiaries to make good use of these bicycles, seeing it as a significant step forward for the continued improvement of primary health care in the province.
