General Abdourahamane Tiani has officially announced that the transitional authorities will return to the French group Orano a portion of the uranium stocks extracted before the nationalization of the Somaïr mine.

Since Niger nationalized Somaïr—the last remaining uranium mine in operation in the country—in June 2025, relations between Niamey and Paris have been particularly strained. This decision to return the mine comes as the two sides clash in the courts and diplomatically.
