Caféiculture ivoirienne : Nestlé et le CNRA scellent une alliance stratégique pour booster la production

On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in Abidjan, Nestlé and the National Center for Agronomic Research (CNRA) officially renewed their partnership. This 17-year collaboration marks a crucial new step for the future of the coffee sector in Côte d'Ivoire.

"Super-performing" varieties to combat climate change

Faced with the dual challenge of declining yields and climate change, scientific research is providing concrete solutions. The work carried out since 2018 has borne fruit:

  1. 18 Robusta clones tested in four key regions.
  2. 6 elite varieties approved for their robustness.
  3. +86% potential yield compared to conventional varieties.
  4. Increased resistance to drought, disease and heat stress.

A massive action plan for producers

The agreement is not limited to theory. To transform the daily lives of planters, a large-scale deployment plan is in place:

  1. Plant distribution: 1.8 million rooted cuttings will be distributed over a three-year period.
  2. Technical proximity: Creation of grafting wood gardens in Divo and Man to facilitate access to improved plant material.
  3. Objectives: To improve grain quality, stabilize production and guarantee better incomes for farmers.

What they say about it:

“This cooperation aims to align with the new challenges facing Côte d’Ivoire. We are providing plant material that combines productivity and organoleptic quality.” — Professor Abdourahamane Sangaré , Director General of CNRA.
"This is a structuring investment to strengthen the economic resilience of producers and ensure the regularity of our supply." — Mohamad Itani , CEO of Nestlé Côte d'Ivoire.

In summary

This partnership between the agri-food giant and the agronomic research expert marks a turning point for the "national priority" set by the Coffee and Cocoa Council. By combining genetic innovation and logistical support , the two institutions are aiming for a more competitive and sustainable Ivorian agriculture on the world stage.
