Coopération UA-Côte d'Ivoire : Au cœur des préparatifs de la Journée de l'Afrique et des défis continentaux

The Presidential Palace in Abidjan hosted a high-level meeting on Friday, June 5, 2026, between the Vice-President of Côte d'Ivoire, Tiémoko Meyliet Koné , and the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr. Ladislas Nze Bekale . Discussions focused primarily on the upcoming celebration of Africa Day and the crucial challenges of nutrition on the continent.

Agenda 2063 and Ivorian leadership praised

Dr. Ladislas Nze Bekale took the opportunity to convey a message of gratitude and encouragement from the Chairperson of the AU Commission to the Ivorian authorities. The pan-African organization particularly commended Côte d'Ivoire's significant involvement in the implementation of Agenda 2063 , the strategic roadmap for Africa's overall development.

Water and nutrition will be at the heart of future commemorations.

Although traditionally set for May 25, Africa Day will be celebrated in Ivory Coast in the coming months under a crucial theme: water .

  1. The issue of water: According to the AU diplomat, this event will serve as a platform to raise awareness among citizens and decision-makers about the issue of access to water, an essential lever for sustainable development.
  2. Nutrition leadership: The discussions also highlighted the role of Côte d'Ivoire as a reference state within the AU regarding nutrition issues at the continental level.
Historical reminder: Commemorating the creation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) on May 25, 1963 in Addis Ababa (which became the AU in 2002), Africa Day aims to consolidate economic integration, strengthen unity in the face of common challenges and promote African cultural identity.

By actively participating in this commemoration, Côte d'Ivoire reaffirms its pan-African roots and highlights its concrete contributions to the priorities of the African Union.
