Côte d’Ivoire : Vers une modernisation du statut d’armateur
The Ivorian National Assembly has taken a decisive step in updating its naval legislation. On Thursday, May 7, 2026, the Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs (CAEF) unanimously adopted the bill amending Article 803 of the Maritime Code .
Led by Célestin Serey Doh , Minister Delegate for Maritime Affairs, this reform primarily aims to harmonize national law with regional bodies.
The major change concerns the conditions of access to the profession:
Before parliamentarians, the minister emphasized that this update strengthens the sector's structure and secures the legal framework for maritime transport in Côte d'Ivoire. By limiting this status to legal entities that comply with community standards, the State ensures better traceability and increased professionalism among sector stakeholders.
Following this unanimous vote in committee, the text must now be sent to all members of parliament. Its final adoption in plenary session will mark Côte d'Ivoire's official entry into this new era of maritime governance.
