The Autonomous District of Abidjan has launched a large-scale eviction operation under road infrastructure in Treichville, Marcory, and Koumassi. The objective: to restore urban order and clean up the metropolis.

Under the leadership of Minister-Governor Cissé Ibrahima Bacongo, the Autonomous District of Abidjan (DAA) is stepping up its fight against urban anarchy. A large-scale operation has been launched to clear illegally occupied areas under several key bridges and interchanges in Ivory Coast's economic capital.

A targeted intervention by the Special Brigade

Led on the ground by the Special Brigade for Combating Urban Disorder (BSLDU) , this initiative aims to dismantle the makeshift structures that detract from the landscape and compromise the safety of these infrastructures. For this first phase, law enforcement has been deployed in three major municipalities:

1. Koumassi: Complete cleaning of the interchange at the main intersection.
2. Marcory and Treichville: Freeing up spaces located under the various road structures.

These sites were previously occupied by vulnerable or marginalized populations, including homeless people, individuals suffering from addictions or with mental disorders.

Towards a sustainable sanitation strategy

Far from being a mere temporary stunt, this action is part of an ongoing strategy to secure and beautify public spaces. The BSLDU has received firm instructions to maintain constant vigilance in order to:

1. To preserve public space permanently against resettlement.
2. Strengthen the safety of motorists and pedestrians.
3. To improve the overall living environment for the people of Abidjan.

A global push for a modern metropolis. This operation is part of a series of evictions already carried out across Greater Abidjan to clear public spaces. By targeting these key locations, the Autonomous District reaffirms its firm ambition: to transform Abidjan into a modern, clean, safe, and meticulously ordered showcase.
