Bétail : La mention « Destination Grand-Bassam » devient obligatoire pour tous les convois
The organization of livestock trade in Côte d'Ivoire is taking a new step towards greater rigor. This Wednesday, May 13, 2026, UNSCOOMACI COOP-CI , through its president Mory Coulibaly, announced a major directive concerning the transport of animals to Sud-Comoé.
From now on, freight forwarders operating at the Ivorian borders as well as traders from Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Benin and Nigeria have a strict obligation: the mention "destination Grand-Bassam" must appear on all official documents.
This measure applies to all administrative documents, including:
To avoid any ambiguity in managing the flow of livestock, this rule is not limited to cattle alone. Small ruminants , and particularly sheep, are now subject to the same regulations. The objective is clear: to harmonize procedures for all operators in the sub-region and ensure that no convoy circumvents the established protocols.
This decision is not merely a bureaucratic formality. It addresses three major challenges for the Grand-Bassam market:
"The authorities and stakeholders involved want to strengthen administrative discipline and guarantee compliance with health standards, in order to ensure a more structured and efficient operation of the regional trade network."
By imposing this administrative marking, UNSCOOMACI COOP-CI intends to make Grand-Bassam a model of regulation and security for livestock trade in West Africa.
