Gestion du littoral ivoirien : Un partenariat stratégique scellé à Nouakchott
The Ivorian coastline is now benefiting from a new institutional impetus. On the sidelines of the 12th Regional Coastal and Marine Forum (FOMACO) in Nouakchott, the Minister of the Environment and Ecological Transition, Abou Bamba , and the Executive Director of the PRCM , Ahmed Senhoury, formalized a historic framework agreement for collaboration on April 28, 2026.
This partnership comes at a critical time, with the Ivorian coast under triple pressure:
The memorandum of understanding sets out a clear roadmap for transforming coastal zone management in Côte d'Ivoire. The priorities are structured around four main areas:
| Area of intervention | Concrete actions |
| Biodiversity | Conservation of marine species and better governance of protected areas. |
| Pollution | Active fight against plastic waste and hydrocarbon spills. |
| Infrastructure | Systematic implementation of environmental studies prior to any coastal project. |
| Resilience | Supporting local communities in the face of climate hazards. |
Beyond monitoring, this agreement relies on collective intelligence. Both signatories commit to stimulating scientific research and strengthening the capacities of those working on the ground. The ultimate goal is to establish "integrated and participatory" management, directly involving local communities in safeguarding their environment.
"This agreement marks a decisive step towards the ecological sovereignty of Ivory Coast."
