Le ministre Abou Bamba veut transformer le CIAPOL en « sentinelle » de l'écologie
The Ivorian Anti-Pollution Center (CIAPOL) is preparing to change its scale. During a working visit to Cocody on Monday, March 2, 2026, the Minister of the Environment, Ecological Transition and Sustainable Development, Abou Bamba , outlined the new contours of this strategic institution.
For the minister, CIAPOL must no longer be a mere administrative body, but a true "barometer" of the country's environmental health . The objective is clear: to produce regular indicators (weekly or monthly) on air, water, and soil quality.
"CIAPOL must be able to tell us precisely what the situation in the country is so that political decisions can be made," Abou Bamba insisted to the officers.
Faced with accelerating national economic growth, the minister advocates a strict balance between development and the preservation of natural capital. This ambition rests on three pillars:
CIAPOL's Director General, Bernard Yapo Ossey , however, pointed out that the road ahead remains fraught with obstacles. The institution still bears the scars of the 2010 post-election crisis, during which its Central Laboratory was heavily vandalized.
Since then, some scientific activity has been forced to take a back seat to administrative tasks. Minister Abou Bamba has pledged to rectify this situation through a plan for redeployment and strengthening of technical capacities.
Founded in 1991, CIAPOL is the state's technical arm for pollution monitoring and ecosystem protection. Its mission is now more crucial than ever to ensure a resilient Ivory Coast in the face of climate challenges.
