Celebrated on May 20th, World Bee Day highlights the crucial role of these pollinators for our biodiversity, food security, and the development of rural areas. On the African continent, where agriculture is a major economic pillar, preserving bees is simply a matter of ensuring stable harvests and supporting the well-being of the population. Investing in beekeeping today means financing the future.

It is with this in mind that the MELBET company has deployed concrete and sustainable projects in Ivory Coast and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In Ivory Coast: Focus on the "Nectar" project

By partnering with the Colonie bee farm, MELBET has structured an initiative with a strong local impact. The project not only protects the environment, but also creates a genuine micro-economy.

Key actions of the project:

  1. Installation of 50 modern beehives .
  2. Planting of a 500 m² space with melliferous plants.
  3. Comprehensive training for local residents in beekeeping techniques and business management.
A virtuous circle: More bees mean better pollination, better agricultural yields for local producers, and therefore an increase in their income.

The project's quantified forecasts:

Indicator Objective
Honey production ~ 2 tonnes of premium honey / year
Revenue generated over 3,000,000 FCFA per year
Farm production capacity Estimated increase of +125%

In the DRC: Focus on biodiversity in North Kivu

MELBET's vision extends beyond the borders of Ivory Coast. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the company supports the "Sustainable Beekeeping and Biodiversity Preservation" program in collaboration with the Academia DRC Group.

At the heart of the Mont-Lubwe educational farm (North Kivu), the brand actively participated in:

  1. Mapping and site preparation.
  2. Planting suitable plant species.
  3. The installation of 50 additional beehives .

A long-term CSR commitment

For MELBET, funding these environmental and social programs is an integral part of a long-term strategy to empower local communities in Africa. The "Nectar" project demonstrates that a successful synergy between an international brand and local stakeholders can generate a positive, tangible, and lasting impact on the environment and the regional economy.
