Secteur minier : Sangafowa-Coulibaly s’inspire de l’exemple du Botswana

The Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly, began a three-day working mission on February 16, 2026 to Gaborone, Botswana, a country considered a global benchmark in the strategic management of mineral resources.

This visit reflects Abidjan's desire to prepare for the post-discovery era, as Côte d'Ivoire records a series of major finds in the gold and oil sectors. The challenge is no longer simply to exploit these resources, but to establish a governance structure capable of sustainably transforming them into drivers of development.

At the start of discussions with his Botswanan counterpart, Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, the Ivorian minister praised a model based on transparency, control of extractive revenues, and their reinvestment in social sectors and infrastructure. Côte d'Ivoire intends to adapt this experience to its own context in order to avoid the pitfalls often associated with the exploitation of natural resources.

This approach reflects the ambition of the Ivorian authorities to build a structured extractive sector, creating local value and benefiting future generations, in a context marked by the rise of national mining production.
