Primary schools in Côte d'Ivoire are about to reach a new milestone. The Ivorian government and the international NGO TaRL Africa are preparing to sign a partnership agreement imminently. The main objective: to boost teacher training and raise the learning level of students from their earliest years of schooling.

The foundations for this collaboration were laid on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 in Abidjan. The Minister of National Education, Literacy and Technical Education, N'Guessan Koffi , received in audience a delegation from the NGO, led by its Deputy Executive Director, Ashleigh Morrell .

Putting teachers at the heart of performance

At the center of the discussions: the integration of the TaRL ( Teaching at the Right Level ) pedagogical method, a recognized approach which consists of teaching by adapting directly to the child's actual level rather than to their age group.

According to feedback from the ministry, this future agreement will focus on:

  1. Strengthening teachers' pedagogical skills.
  2. The deployment of appropriate tools to quickly address students' learning gaps.
  3. A synergy of action on the ground to sustain these achievements.

A vision aligned with national reforms

For Minister N'Guessan Koffi, this alliance fits perfectly within the government's roadmap, which focuses on quality and excellence. He took advantage of this meeting to highlight the flagship programs already implemented by Côte d'Ivoire, including:

  1. The CLÉ Programme (Reading and Writing Skills).
  2. The PNAPAS (National Program for the Improvement of Early School Learning), dedicated to the fundamentals: reading, writing and arithmetic.

For its part, the TaRL Africa delegation commended the proactive approach of the Ivorian authorities. The NGO stated its full commitment to supporting Côte d'Ivoire in its modern vision of education, where mastery of basic skills remains the absolute priority.
