Aquaculture : Le tilapia ivoirien mise sur le numérique pour conquérir le marché
The Ivorian fishing sector is undergoing a digital transformation. On April 29th and 30th in Yamoussoukro , Place Jean-Paul II will host the "Tilapia Promotion Days." The highlight? The official launch of the Multi-Stakeholder Partnership's (PM2ACI) digital marketing platform. This technological initiative aims for a clear objective: to reduce dependence on imports.
The facts are clear: Ivory Coast still imports nearly 80% of its fish needs , representing a colossal volume of 700,000 tons per year. Currently, local tilapia production is capped at 10,000 tons.
Supported by the FAO and the FISH4ACP program, the project aims to structure the sector to increase production to 68,000 tonnes by 2031 .
The major innovation of this tool lies in its ability to directly connect production areas to end consumers.
"This platform is the catalytic force that will differentiate Ivorian tilapia in the market."
Beyond the technical aspects, this digital transition, overseen by the Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Resources (MIRAH) , aims to be inclusive. Its primary targets are:
During the event in Yamoussoukro, training sessions will enable fish farmers to create their own online sales spaces, marking the first step towards greater commercial autonomy.
