The system for protecting natural resources in Ivory Coast has reached a new stage. On Friday, April 10, 2026, the Minister of Water and Forests, Jacques Assahoré , officially installed a detachment of the Special Surveillance and Intervention Brigade (BSSI) in Kahankro, in the department of Toumodi.

A bulwark against ecological disasters

This initiative aligns with President Alassane Ouattara's vision of translating environmental commitments into concrete actions. The minister reiterated that the country's resources face persistent threats:

1. Forests: Illegal exploitation, clandestine logging and anarchic occupation.
2. Wildlife: Intensive poaching.
3. Water: Pollution of waterways by illegal gold mining.
4. Safety: Increase in bushfires.

A strategic and operational base

Located on the redeveloped site of a former construction company, the new Kahankro base has become a nerve center for monitoring the region. It now combines two essential missions: fighting bushfires and suppressing environmental crime .

"The State will not back down from any obstacle to preserve its natural resources and the lives of its people," Jacques Assahoré emphasized during the ceremony.

The minister set clear objectives for the deployed agents, requiring them to:

1. Integrity and rigor in the performance of their duties.
2. Increased responsiveness thanks to regular patrols.
3. Effectiveness in dismantling illegal networks.
