The first edition of the Scientific Symposium on Information and Communication Technologies (COSTIC 2026) kicked off on Wednesday, May 20th at the African Higher School of ICT (ESATIC), located in Treichville. On this occasion, the Ivorian government firmly reiterated its commitment to transforming the technology sector into a powerful driver of social inclusion, economic growth, and independence for the continent.

Africa, a major player in its technological revolution

Representing the Minister of Digital Transition and Technological Innovation (Djibril Ouattara), Inspector General Famaria Koné made a strong appeal to an audience of academics, researchers, students and experts from Africa and Europe:

"Our Africa must be the agent of its own digital transformation."

Faced with the global rise of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, Big Data, the Internet of Things (IoT), and quantum computing, Côte d'Ivoire refuses to remain a spectator. This ambition is directly integrated into the National Digital Development Strategy, spearheaded by President Alassane Ouattara, which aims to build a robust digital economy that generates jobs for young people.

To realize this vision, the government is relying on a clear roadmap:

1. Digital infrastructure : Connecting the territory and strengthening networks.
2. Digital services : Modernizing access to public and private services.
3. Digital financial services : Boosting financial inclusion.
4. Digital skills : Developing human capital.
5. Business environment : Attracting investment and securing the market.
6. Technological innovation : Encouraging local research and creativity.
7. Cybersecurity and digital trust : Protecting data and users.

Human capital: The heart of the matter

Mr. Koné particularly stressed the crucial importance of training: "If you don't have digital skills, everything you're doing is worthless."

While praising ESATIC's role as a continental center of excellence, he called for the creation of genuine synergies between universities, research centers and the private sector to stimulate applied research.

Three days to think about the digital future of tomorrow

Professor Adama Konaté , Director General of ESATIC and Chairman of the Organising Committee, recalled the main objective of this event: to bring forth concrete solutions adapted to the realities of the continent.

Held under the theme "Digital technology at the service of sustainable development in Africa" , the symposium, which will conclude this Friday, offers a packed program:

1. More than 100 scientific presentations by experts.
2. Key themes : AI, cybersecurity, telecommunications and digital inclusion.
3. Concrete applications dedicated to the health, agriculture, energy and education sectors.

For Professor Adama Coulibaly , chairman of the scientific committee, the ambition is clear: to establish COSTIC over time and make it the essential and sustainable scientific meeting place for innovation in Africa.
