Fête des pères en Côte d’Ivoire : Des papas en quête de reconnaissance
Celebrated this Sunday, June 21, 2026, Father's Day remains, for many heads of households in Ivory Coast, a day of disconcerting discretion. Caught between social indifference and personal devotion, fathers are demanding a true place at the heart of the festivities.
While Mother's Day generates a national buzz every year, the atmosphere surrounding Father's Day is almost invisible. In markets and neighborhoods alike, nothing hints at the event. For many fathers, this Sunday resembles any other day, marked by a noticeable absence of attention, gifts, or recognition.
Behind this apparent indifference lies the frustration of fully committed men.
This societal invisibility is as irritating as it is hurtful. Mr. Adéoti, in turn, expresses a profound need for recognition:
"We deserve festive fabrics, paintings, flowers, attention. When you walk into the markets, you wouldn't even think there was a celebration. It's not right. Consider us too!"
Fortunately, the darkness of this national trend is sometimes brightened by heartwarming stories of family solidarity. In Koumassi Remblai, however, the atmosphere is quite different for Mr. Koné.
Since the tragic death of his wife in a road accident, this father of six has courageously assumed the dual role of parent. His devotion to his children deserves to be celebrated in a big way.
Every June 21st then becomes the scene of a vibrant tribute:
“My children are grateful for everything I’ve done. For them, I haven’t been forgotten,” he confides with justifiable pride. An inspiring example that proves that, while society still struggles to give fathers the place they deserve, the greatest recognition begins first and foremost at home.
