Ivory Coast is preparing to become the epicenter of a major military gathering in April 2026. The country will host special forces from more than twenty nations as part of the annual multinational exercise Flintlock .

This event, of paramount importance, is organized under the direction of U.S. Special Forces and represents the largest annual gathering of the United States Special Operations Command for Africa ( SOCAFRICA ). The information has been confirmed by the U.S. Embassy in Côte d'Ivoire.

A Key Objective: Strengthening Regional Security

Funded by Washington , Exercise Flintlock aims to achieve several strategic objectives:

  1. Improve the interoperability of participating armed forces.
  2. Strengthen the coordination of military actions between partner countries.
  3. Sharpening response capabilities to growing transnational threats, such as terrorism and organized criminal networks .

A Strong Partnership

Elite soldiers from 40 partner countries (including more than 20 African and Western countries) will take part in this multi-day maneuver to consolidate their special operations skills.

This exercise is seen as essential to establishing an effective coordinated regional response , particularly in West Africa , to the expansion of terrorist groups.

For Ivory Coast, the 2026 edition will mark the second consecutive year that it will host Flintlock, following the 2025 edition.
