The demonstration initiated on Monday, June 8, 2026, by employees of the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs (DGAM) has taken a major legal turn. Under the guise of a strike, this gathering resulted in the arrest and transfer of 34 employees to the Abidjan Criminal Court (PPA) on Thursday, June 11.

The results of the arrests

Law enforcement intervened to control the disturbances that occurred during this day of protest:

28 agents were apprehended by the national police at the scene of the incidents at the DGAM, before being taken to the police headquarters.
Six additional agents were arrested by the national gendarmerie.

All those implicated were subsequently transferred to the PPA. Furthermore, the DGAM's general management formally denied the rumors, specifying that no deaths had occurred among those arrested.

Next legal step

Considered the ringleaders of this movement, these agents are now facing legal proceedings. They will have to answer for their actions before the Court of First Instance of Abidjan-Plateau, at a hearing scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, 2026 .
