On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Paris Agreement, the Ivorian Minister of the Environment and Ecological Transition took stock of the country's climate actions and set the course for the next decade.

A positive outcome but persistent challenges

Gathered on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at the residence of the French Ambassador to Ivory Coast, Jean-Christophe Belliard, several diplomats and development experts celebrated the tenth anniversary of this historic 2015 treaty. During this event (the Green Cocktail ), organized by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), Minister Abou Bamba praised the major progress made by Ivory Coast under the leadership of President Alassane Ouattara.

Among the notable advances, the minister highlighted:

  1. Strengthening national environmental governance.
  2. The upward reassessment of the country's climate commitments.
  3. The rise of renewable energies and sustainable agriculture.
  4. Sustained efforts to restore Ivory Coast's forest cover.

Despite these advances, Côte d'Ivoire remains vulnerable. The minister noted that the country is bearing the brunt of climate change, illustrated by coastal erosion, recurring floods, droughts, and increased pressure on natural resources .

Target 2036: Innovate and invest massively

Faced with the urgency of the situation, Abou Bamba stressed that it was now necessary to go "further and faster." He called for the next ten years to be a pivotal decade focused on technological innovation and financing the ecological transition.

"We need to intensify actions in favor of innovation and green investment over the next ten years." — Abou Bamba, Minister of the Environment and Ecological Transition.

In conclusion, the minister praised the strategic partnership with France and the GGGI, whose constant support enables Côte d'Ivoire to reconcile economic growth, social justice and the preservation of biodiversity.
